About Newton Tesla

Hi, I'm George Newton, the managing director of Newton Tesla (Electric Drives) Limited.

I have been involved in the repair and design of AC & DC variable speed drives since 1974. Back in those days I was with British Steel Corporation maintaining high speed rolling mill drives of up to 15,000kW. At the tender age of 21 years, I was pretty much hooked on motor speed control and have ate, slept and drank variable speed drives ever since. Can I put up a shelf at home? Not really!... Can I fix a leaking tap? No, Course not! Can I repair a 600kW DC 4 Quadrant thyristor drive or variable frequency inverter down to component level? Well, yes I can, and that's still what I enjoy the most about my job!

So when a call comes in for someone to go out to an AC or DC drive that's not running properly, it's just as likely that it'll be me who turns up to get your production running again as one of our very capable drive application engineers.

I started up Newton Tesla (Electric Drives) Ltd in 1987 with my wife Janet as co director.

We gave a lot of thought to choosing the company name and finally chose the combination of force (Newton) and magnetic field strength (Tesla). Since every electric motor I know of provides a force by magnetic reaction, I think the combination of the two names was entirely appropriate..... OK my surname is Newton as well, just co-incidence I assure you!

We chose Warrington as our main operating base for its excellent position with motorway links to Manchester, Liverpool & Leeds.

The company is now one of the UK's leading suppliers of large variable speed motor drives up to 1,000kW for the cement, paper and water industries across the UK.

Newton Tesla engineers travel the length and breadth of the country and travel across Europe trouble-shooting on variable speed drives and electronic control systems.

For over 14 years we have been official distributors for the Mitsubishi Electric range of industrial products, whose product portfolio includes; AC variable speed drives, Soft-starter controllers, PLCs and Human Machine Interfaces.

In recognition of our high standard of system integration skills and drive system expertise, we were appointed by Mitsubishi Electric (UK) as the Northwest 'Drive Systems Centre'.

Newton Tesla are also appointed as the sole European sales and service centre for Fincor Electronics range of DC drives, motor control gear and electronic speed controls for high speed newspaper press, with engineers to support this equipment available throughout Europe.
