This electric tram car was converted to an illuminated feature car to celebrate the Centenary of the opening of the Manx Electric Railway in 1893. The vehicle was to be illuminated by over 2000 lamps with light sequencing.

Based on a recommendation from Blackpool Transport we were contacted by the I.O.M Tramway and subsequently we supplied a Mitsubishi Z300 5.5KW inverter and Mitsubishi Electric FX programmable controller for the light sequencing.
The inverter takes the 630VDC from the overhead trolley and supplies a 7.5KVA three phase transformer at 400VAC from which 24VAC lighting circuits are taken.
The car has been in service in it's illuminated form since 1993 and has become a very popular feature of the tramway on summers evenings evening to the nearby preserved narrow gauge steam railway at Groudle Glen.

The following year Newton Tesla were commissioned to provide light sequencing for the large digit 'ELECTRIC RAILWAY' display above I.O.M Railways Derby Castle works. Again, the Mitsubishi Electric Range of Fx Programmable Logic controllers were employed for this application.
We now have Mitsubishi Electric drives and PLC's installed on various tramway networks including Blackpool, Birkenhead, East Anglia Transport Museum, I.O.M and Hong Kong networks.
