This section is for Model engineers and home machinists who are interested in increasing the versatility of their lathes and milling machines by having full variable speed control. Our new range of Mitsubishi Electric speed controllers now make this an affordable option.
It's never been a better time to update your lathe to smooth variable speed control!
Our managing director (George Newton) is a skilled model engineer who has developed a range of "ready to go" speed controllers for the popular Myford ML series lathes.
A typical Myford ML7 lathe has six fixed spindle speeds, three back geared and three direct. By converting to variable speed control, each of these fixed speeds can be varied over a 10:1 speed range with full torque available at the motor. Furthermore, within the ML7 original design specification, up to 20% over speed is possible (60Hz) at "constant horsepower". As all the speed ranges now overlap each other, any spindle speed can be had from 3.5 to 785 RPM with no gaps whatsoever.

The chart (opposite) shows the typical speed ranges
possible on a standard Myford ML7 fitted with our
inverter & new motor but with the original 1" 7/8 diameter motor
pulley fitted. 0 - 1780 RPM motor speed. |
For any machining job there is a cutting speed that is just right, and with full speed control you can always find the speed that gives no tool chatter and a perfect machined finish.
With a Mitsubishi Electric variable frequency inverter, and new three phase motor, the full potential of your lathe or machine tool can be finally unleashed.
We have variable speed control packages available for all Myford series lathes, Boxford, Colchester, Harrison, Drummond, Viceroy and Raglan lathes.
Systems are also available for some WARCO machines such as the WMT300 and BH600 lathes, VMC miling machines and other machine tools, including Tom Senior, Bridgeport and Adcock-Shipley machines.
Just some machine operations made easier with variable speed control...
